Korinthos's Smart City Platform
The project is part of the Municipality’s digital transformation strategy and aims to create a modern, integrated Smart City Platform, which will form the basis for the transition to a more sustainable, interconnected, and technologically advanced urban environment. Using innovative applications and “smart” equipment, the Municipality aims to improve the quality of life of citizens, enhance accessibility, and promote environmental awareness.
Smart City Platform
The Smart City Platform is a comprehensive ecosystem for collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data to improve citizens’ daily lives and promote sustainable urban development. It includes two basic sub-platforms:
- Business Intelligence and Smart City Data Integration Platform (BI & IoT Data Integration), which collects and analyzes data from sensors, such as smart benches, crossings, and bins, converting it through machine learning algorithms into useful information for planning and decision-making.
- Artificial Intelligence Marketing Campaign Platform (AI Location-Based Marketing), which allows the Municipality to carry out targeted informational or promotional campaigns based on the geographical location and behavior of citizens.
The Platform supports interconnection with multiple subsystems such as the bicycle management system, smart benches, bins, and crossings, as well as future smart parking solutions, while fully complying with the GDPR Regulation on data security. Its interoperability allows for the holistic management of the “smart city” and the development of new applications by businesses and academic institutions, contributing to innovation and sustainability.
Smart Urban Equipment
Smart Urban Equipment includes the installation of smart benches, which are placed in rest areas and offer a range of innovative, environmentally friendly services in addition to their basic function. The benches are equipped with photovoltaic panels for autonomous energy operation, the ability to charge mobile devices via USB or wirelessly, as well as sensors for environmental conditions and pedestrian presence. This equipment combines ergonomics, technology, and sustainability, upgrading the public space aesthetically and functionally and contributing to the Municipality’s “green” and digital identity.
Overall, the project is an important step towards creating a smart, connected, and sustainable city that leverages new technologies to provide better services, enhance citizen engagement, and promote a greener and more people-centered urban experience.
