The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos is implementing a comprehensive urban environment upgrade project, incorporating smart technologies and advanced digital infrastructure with the aim of enhancing sustainable mobility, cultural promotion, and accessibility. The project includes the following actions:

Digital Signage for Monuments & Free Wireless Wi-Fi Access

The sub-project focuses on improving the visitor experience and promoting tourism in the Municipality through:

• Digital Signage for Monuments: Two digital information points with display screens will be installed, providing historical and cultural information about the city’s points of interest in an interactive and attractive way.
• Wireless Wi-Fi Access for the Public: 24 Wi-Fi hotspots will be created in selected locations, enhancing digital accessibility for residents and tourists.

The subsystem also includes routers and installation materials for reliable operation of the equipment.

Smart City Platform, Access and Traffic Control & Controlled Parking

This sub-project is the “heart” of smart city operations and includes:

• Smart City Platform: A central digital system that interconnects, monitors, and manages all smart subsystems, offering real-time functionality and data analysis tools.
• Pedestrian Zone Control and Access System: Includes retractable bollards, remote control and epass recognition systems, management software, and remote control capabilities, protecting pedestrian zones from unauthorized vehicles.
• Controlled Parking System: Integrates sensors in parking spaces (general & special – disabled/loading), user identification devices, digital driver information via signs and mobile applications, as well as tools for the Municipal Police to monitor and issue fines.
• Traffic Management System: Provides advanced traffic flow monitoring and management software for effective supervision and smoothing of traffic in the city.
