The “Smart City Guide of the Municipality of Skyros” project is a comprehensive smart city platform that connects the municipality, local businesses, and citizens through modern digital tools. Its aim is to promote the tourist and cultural wealth of Skyros, strengthen local entrepreneurship, and facilitate the daily lives of residents and visitors. The platform is based on a web portal, a mobile app, and a series of interactive subsystems, offering unified, user-friendly, and easy-to-use experience.

Smart City Guide Web Portal

The web portal functions as a digital information hub and single point of access for all users. It provides dynamic business search by category or location, detailed business profiles with photos, descriptions, contact details, and maps, as well as content management through an advanced CMS that allows the Municipality to update the platform in real time. It supports multilingualism, has a responsive design for flawless operation on any device, and offers API integration for interfacing with third-party systems and data sources.

Mobile Application (Android & iOS)

The mobile application offers full access to the platform’s services in an optimized environment for mobile devices. It includes a map with geolocation and navigation to businesses or points of interest, personalized push notifications for events, news, and offers, favorite location storage, and offline content access. It also incorporates a user rating and review system for services and locations, and is fully integrated with the portal, ensuring real-time data synchronization.

Multimedia Content Registration and Display Subsystem

The subsystem allows the creation, storage, and presentation of audiovisual material promoting Skyros and its businesses. Administrators can organize photos, videos, and audio files into thematic sections and albums, add tags for easy linking to locations or categories, and embed multimedia in pages and sub-applications. The system supports automatic image optimization and video streaming, offering high-quality viewing and a consistent experience for all users.

Mobile Crowdsensing (MCS) subsystem

The Mobile Crowdsensing subsystem collects and analyzes usage and traffic data in real time, providing valuable information to the Municipality for improving services and developing tourism. By analyzing user movements and behavior, it creates heatmaps that show the most popular spots, while monitoring visitor flows and length of stay at locations of interest. In addition, it generates statistical reports and graphs, supporting informed decision-making, always in full compliance with the GDPR and anonymization of data.

Citizen and Tourist Service Subsystem

The citizen and tourist service subsystem offers a range of digital services and interactive tools. Citizens can submit requests or complaints electronically and track their progress, create personal profiles with the ability to personalize content and suggestions, make online reservations for businesses, events, or parking spaces, and participate in reward programs through a digital card (Club Card). The system also includes a receipt scanning feature and a communication channel between users for exchanging experiences and information.

Through the implementation of this project, the Municipality of Skyros is acquiring an innovative, interoperable, and user-friendly smart city system that enhances the visibility of the area, promotes sustainable tourism development, and creates added value for the local community.
